Rated among the most desirable and rarest of Colts with only around 240 produced and an estimated 10 percent of originals surviving, the Whitneyville was the first revolver manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut by Sam Colt. This .44 six-shooter, turned out in late 1847, featured several improvements over the Walker model such as a shortened cylinder, the barrel was reduced to 7 1/2 inches, the barrel wedge entered from the left side of the shortened barrel lug, and a loading lever latch was added. The Whitneyville was a desirable weapon then as FALSEw with both the military and civilian market, especially on the frontier and by the top military men of the day, like General Zachary Taylor!
